The students in Spanish II enjoyed making, decorating, and breaking Cascarones in class on Friday, April 2nd. Cascarones are eggs that have been emptied out and then filled with confetti. After they are decorated, they are broken over friends' heads'! Cascarones are used in different celebrations in Latin America, especially during Spring.

The Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program honors Georgia's outstanding high school seniors and the teachers who have been most instrumental in their academic development. To obtain the STAR nomination, a high school senior must have the highest score on the two-part SAT and be in the top ten percent of their class. That student is then asked to nominate a STAR teacher. The Charlton County High School STAR student and STAR teacher for the 2020-2021 school year are Chelsea Thompson and Curtis Hersey. We would like to give a HUGE shoutout to Ms. Sandy McDonald and Mr. Anthony Jackson for their generous Prom Angel donations to four students at CCHS. They work hard to fundraise throughout the year in order to provide prom essentials for four lucky students. In doing so, they honor the memory of their late daughter Coco. This is the second year of the Prom Angel program. Through this program, two boys and two girls are selected to receive a prom gift bag including gift cards for attire, grooming, and dinner. This award helps to ease some of the financial burden that senior year presents. Congrats to this year’s recipients: Cassidy Engler, Alex Erwin, Taquan Pierrain, and Chelsea Thompson.

Ms. Lee would like to extend a special thanks to Jamee Gibbs for her assistance in creating the February Black History Month book display in the CCHS media center. Jamee is pictured with her friend Tiauna Daniels. Please stop by the media center to enjoy these titles and more!

The Mobile Food Pantry, coordinated through Charlton Family Connections, is held in the parking lot of Champ Bailey Field each month. Thank you to Terrance Pender, Carla Rodeffer, Jesse Crews (girls basketball coach), David Bailey (boys basketball coach), Jerrod Cisco (wrestling coach), Thad Marchman (baseball coach), and to all of the students who volunteered their time at this event.

CCHS is proud of Mrs. Breanna Knowles and her healthcare science students for presenting the dangers of vaping to the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students at BMS. Mrs. Knowles did a fantastic job leading the presentation, and each future CNA presented their research findings on the dangers of vaping and tobacco use. Please congratulate Mrs. Knowles and her students! Thank you to Mrs. Shannon Murray for coordinating this event.
