Region 2-A Public Champions
CCHS is pleased to announce that Katy Ruth Huling is our 2021 Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Huling has been teaching for 15 years. She has taught Georgia History, middle grades math, and high school math. She began her career at South Effingham Middle School (2006-2008), and she has also taught at Bethune Middle School (2010-2011) and Charlton County High School (2008-2010 / 2011 – present). She is a graduate of Charlton County High School and Georgia Southern University. She holds a Bachelor's degree and a Master’s degree in Middle Grades Education as well as an Education Specialist degree in Secondary Mathematics.
On top of teaching math at CCHS, Mrs. Huling is an advisor for the student council organization and the literary competition team. She also co-directs the spring musical each year and serves on our school leadership team.
Please help us congratulate Mrs. Huling on this honor.
We would also like to applaud the educators that have been selected as Teacher of the Year at our feeder schools. We realize that academic achievement is a group effort, and we want to thank the teachers at Folkston Elementary School (Valerie Gowen), Saint George Elementary School (Jade Olinto), and Bethune Middle School (Amy Bell) for helping pave the way for our students at CCHS.

It is National Librarian Day, and we have the best one ever at CCHS. We are very thankful to have Ms. Meagan Lee in our media center. She does so much for our staff and students. Without her our library would just be a room with books, computers, and media material. Thank you Ms. Lee for being at CCHS.
The goal of the Secretary of State’s Ambassadors Program is to provide high school students an opportunity to engage as a leader within their school and community. Students gain leadership experience by learning about and teaching Georgia civics to your peers, learning about voter registration and promoting and encouraging other students to register to vote. Throughout the school year, teams will organize and carry out various activities for points that go towards the regional and statewide competition. Regional winners and an overall state are announced at the end of the competition. The ambassadors at CCHS won Region 1 and finished 8th overall in the state competition. We have a great group of ambassadors and we are very proud of them! (not pictured - Delaney Murrell)
The school climate at CCHS is UNMATCHED!!! Thank you to all of the students and staff that donated today to wear a hat for Preston Prescott. As you all know, Preston and his family tragically lost their home to a fire during our spring break. We have raised over $1,000 so far, and we will continue collecting monetary donations tomorrow!
In addition, if you donate, you will be entered in the drawing for a hat giveaway. Mr. Pender has a Braves cap, Coach Crews has J-Rock hats, and Coach Marchman and Coach Murray have Indians hats to give away, so there will be several winners! Thank you to everyone that donated this week! We are SO THANKFUL AND PROUD of everyone’s generous donations.
The staff and students would like to welcome back Ms. Katie Rodgers. Everyone is excited to see her smiling face again in the attendance office. Thank you to Lacey Phillips for filling in and helping out while Katie was out.
Job Announcement: CCHS is currently seeking a Social Studies teacher for the 2021-2022 school year.
The students in Spanish II enjoyed making, decorating, and breaking Cascarones in class on Friday, April 2nd. Cascarones are eggs that have been emptied out and then filled with confetti. After they are decorated, they are broken over friends' heads'! Cascarones are used in different celebrations in Latin America, especially during Spring.

Job Announcement: CCHS is currently seeking a Science teacher for the 2021-2022 school year.
The Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program honors Georgia's outstanding high school seniors and the teachers who have been most instrumental in their academic development. To obtain the STAR nomination, a high school senior must have the highest score on the two-part SAT and be in the top ten percent of their class. That student is then asked to nominate a STAR teacher. The Charlton County High School STAR student and STAR teacher for the 2020-2021 school year are Chelsea Thompson and Curtis Hersey. Please help us congratulate Chelsea and Mr. Hersey for earning this honor!
